We've put together common questions across clients. Still have questions?
Physiotherapists and chiropractors work primarily on the joint and surrounding tissue — releasing tension, improving mobility, and reducing acute pain. That work has value, but it addresses the symptoms rather than the patterns recreating them between sessions. A TMJ specialist — typically a dentist — focuses on the joint and bite structure through appliances, occlusal adjustments, or Botox. Again, useful in the right context, but none of these approaches look for the muscle habits, tongue posture, breathing patterns, and whole-body compensations that keep reloading the jaw. Functional Jaw Recovery is built specifically around identifying and retraining that layer — the one that manual therapy and dental intervention never reaches.
A night guard creates a physical barrier between the teeth. It can protect against grinding damage but it does nothing to stop the clenching itself — and for many people the appliance actually triggers more muscle activity as the jaw braces against it. Other appliances work on a similar principle, repositioning the jaw or offloading the joint without addressing what is driving the tension in the first place. Functional Jaw Recovery does not replace or remove your appliance. What it does is address the muscle patterns, postural habits, and structural compensations that are generating the tension your appliance is trying to manage — so the jaw is no longer working against itself.
The Jaw Relief Program runs for 12 weeks and combines three elements: guided clinical modules you work through at your own pace, live exercise programming updated regularly based on where you are in your recovery, and direct 1-1 support from Fathima throughout. The modules cover the clinical education behind each phase of Functional Jaw Recovery — so you understand not just what to do but whyit works. The exercise programming progresses as you move through the Relieve, Reset, and Repattern phases.
Yes. The Jaw Relief Program is designed to work alongside existing treatment, not replace it. If you are currently wearing a night guard, continuing with physiotherapy, or receiving any other care, that does not disqualify you from the program. What the program addresses is a different layer entirely — the muscle patterns and structural habits that your current treatment is not reaching. The two can run in parallel without conflict.
This program is not the right fit if you are looking for a passive or quick-fix solution, if you have received Botox in the jaw area within the last 8 weeks, or if you are looking for an insurance-covered or lower-cost care option at this time.
If you have received Botox in the jaw area within the last 8 weeks, the program is not the right fit at this time. Botox temporarily paralyses the masseter muscle, which affects the accuracy of the assessment and the effectiveness of the retraining work. Once the Botox has fully worn off and normal muscle activity has returned, you are welcome to start the program.
Yes. The program is fully virtual and designed to be delivered that way from the ground up — not adapted from an in-person model. Rather than relying on hands-on manual therapy, clients learn the specific self-guided manual techniques needed to work directly with the jaw and surrounding structures themselves. Combined with the clinical modules, progressive exercise programming, and 1-1 support from Fathima, everything needed for recovery is in your hands — literally and practically— regardless of where you are in the world.
No. Jaw Relief Lab is a private virtual practice and the program is not covered by insurance. If you have an FSA or HSA account, you may be able to use those funds — worth checking with your provider. If insurance coverage is important to your decision at this time, this program is likely not the right fit. For those who are ready to invest in private specialist care, the free training is the best place to start to understand exactly what the program involves and whether it is right for you.
The free training is the best place to start. It covers exactly how Functional Jaw Recovery works, why it produces results for people whose symptoms have persisted despite prior treatment, and what the program involves — giving you everything you need to make an informed decision before taking any next step. There is no commitment involved in watching it.
After watching you will be able to schedule a free consultation.
